File Under WGAF (Who Gives A Fuck)

i'm doing something wrong. while housesitting, my PC laptop serves as my primary machine (as opposed to my mac which i use at home). windows is okay -- i can deal -- but there's nothing like a new OS to humble me, break me down to the limp mass i am. for example:

- i can't send outgoing attachments via outlook express! why am i punished like this?? is it a firewall? some weird SMTP thing? i've been clicking for days without luck, which brings us to the fact that...

- ...the whole reason i want to send attachments is cause i have new pictures all cropped and ready to go. no problem, right? i got CuteFTP, just FTP them to the site and let people download what they like, right? oh, HELL no.

- CuteFTP (the windows version of Fetch) is like slogging through stiff mud. i think it's the DSL, actually...but 22 hours to upload 2MB worth of images?? i don't get it.

- to top it all off, the images that did make it through look like this. lovely, no?

sorry, too much ranting.

rejoice!! after six and a half months of fruitless searching, i've finally found my lost seiko h-timetron watch. not only is this my favorite watch ever, but it's extra special because nancy bought it in Hong Kong for me. so i'm ecstatic to have it back. next step: krazy glue it to my wrist.

interestingly, the first thing people ask when they see it is, "can you watch TV on it?" my usual answer: "if i could, i wouldn't be here."

let me say, officially, IKEA is the raddest store on the face of the earth (costco excluded, of course). so even though i cringe at charlise's assertion that ikea is evil, i'm willing to concede it's mostly all true. but when you have four-foot black laquered shadow boxes for $8.99 (!), come on...

things that bug me:

1) forgetting my cigarettes.

2) waiting for packages to arrive. i.e. any of the two lomos i won on eBay. they're coming from russia, so i understand. but that don't mean i have to like it.

3) eBay sellers (and buyers for that matter) who don't think it's necessary to leave feedback. my stupid meter's been stuck at 26 now for 10 days. it should be 28. small quibble, but personally important.

4) nerds like me.

despite appearances, i'm not an especially social person. most of my mingling gets done online through e-mail and whatnot, so when i'm away for too long, i tend to feel disconnected from the rest of the world. i don't like telephones much, and person-to-person conversations with strangers make me nervous. now this didn't use to be a problem. perhaps i'm a sign of the times. or i'm in the early throes of hermit-ism. either way, i'm having a hard time leaving my chair...

so. APAture is over. the six-month project was completed successfully saturday night with enough time to squeeze in a celebratory drink at El Bobo and gossip at annie's house. the overwhelming feeling i have is not one of great satisfaction, but one of how things could have been done better. for me, i can't party hard unless i feel i really deserve it. the guilt would get me in the end. this is a very new outlook for me, one that's directly correlated with the fact i don't hold a steady job anymore. some people relish the fact they don't have to work to get by. i feel like a lazy slob. so i'm looking towards next year's APAture as an opportunity to develop the skills i learned this year, as well as try out a few new tricks. and if you haven't heard yet, Min Jung was fabulous. maybe i should post a video clip, hmmm?

sunday was interesting. after hanging with drew for a spell, i went home to an empty house. compared to saturday's overly-saturated level of socialization, sunday was a lonely and depressing affair, full of surrogate company in the form of mindless TV and endless snacks. tired as i was, going grocery shopping or eating dinner out with friends would have done me a lot better. again, the results of my antisocial lifestyle. feh.

anyone up for a garage-sale-slash-BBQ-dinner at my house? lan and scott are scheming...more to follow...
