work sucks. i don't imagine that needs any elaboration. but good news: pics of the zines (most of them, anyway) are up. check them out here. click on the zine's name and an annoying pop-up window appears. yeah, they're not exactly the most current issues, but let me say in my own defense there's a very, very evil person out there. a person who thinks stealing zines is cool. well, it's not cool, and thanks a lot for ripping me off. once i replace what you've taken from me, i'll be sure to post those pics, too.

i've come to grips with a smoking addiction. drinking died a moderate death. drugs, for the most part, are blurs of days past. but cigarettes, christ. they're imprinted on the brain like food or water. and i'm not sure turning 30 (the arbitrary age i've always said i'd quit) will have any significant impact, though that could all change. how goes it, min jung? for the time being, i live vicariously through you. you're grand!

let's be fair. i've had the same haircut since 1996 -- a shaved head. quarter-inch all around. occasionally shades of blue, mauve, violet, rust, but basically shaved, and i LOVE it. roll out of bed, no problem, no combs, no gel. bad hair days mean nothing to me. i'm convinced this 'do is mine for years to come. then i get this bright idea (always a bad sign, always) to grow it out. first time in six years. sure, i think, change is good. nancy will swoon. i'd eventually regain those formerly glorious locks the lasses gazed so adoringly at and stop resembling my ex-con co-workers.

if only it were that easy.

mistake #1: thinking i could pull this off. who do i think i am? tony leung? i didn't know what to do with hair when i had it. why would this be any different? the impetuousness of youth and vanity. sheesh.

mistake #2: picking a barber that didn't speak english. i said, not too short, parted on the left. he smiled. i said, know what i mean? he smiled. i said, sir? he said, what you like-ah heh-cut-ah fay-loh? then i knew, this wasn't my day.

mistake #3: being too lazy to get up and find another barber. in my own perverted logic, i figured, well, i was chinese, he was chinese, and somehow it would all work out. you see where this is going?

he didn't use scissors on me ONCE. all clippers and combs and the words "you like? okay, okay" over and over again. i'm now the proud owner of a generic fade-to-rounded-flattop-chinatown-special that's received mixed reviews. the office seems to like it, though their taste is questionable (socks and sandals with shorts, 'nuff said) and nancy...well, she's too nice. so i revert back to my old ways tomorrow morning. i tried.

nancy's new 'do, however, is to DIE FOR. hello chunky-spiky-pixie-cut. makes me tingle and wink seductively against my own free will.

franz, our resident übergenius/mr. magoo is entirely convinced he's not alone. the Libyans, he claims, are watching him, and they caused his DSL to go kaput along with corrupting numerous disks on his home PC. now if you know franz, you know he's partial to conspiracies and whatnot (don't even get him started on Grenada), but he is writing on Lockerbie....so what can i say? spooks abound! maybe this could explain my insomnia...

speaking of sleepless nights, i finally completed the APILC materials list. here's hoping all interested students will find it useful. a more-inclusive list is forthcoming, but still no plans for porn listings (though i could be swayed).
